I left work after 6 pm today. Bah, meetings. That made a ten-hour day. But, after getting two afternoons off this week, I am more philosophical about it than I'd otherwise be.
After work, I took the after-hours cell with me shopping. I was always close enough to respond to the office, so. :) My camera supplies have been outgrowing their bag, to the point where it bulges. So I got a new, bigger bag - there was a London Fog bag on sale that was really nice, and they let me try fitting supplies into various bags until that one clearly suited and I decided on it. The first three I tried didn't work, two were okay but not as good as this one.
Stopped at Powell's to pick up a book for work that I get to expense, and picked up two I don't. All business related. The one for work is "The Goal" which I am getting to go with "Critical Chain" (which of course they did not have at that store - I will have to pick it up elsewhere). I got a book on negotiating and one on extricating yourself from overwork at the same time. The first one will probably be useful and the second one will at least give me peaceful thoughts, and maybe even useful ideas.
Stopped at the grocery store and picked up what I could remember from the list I forgot at the office, plus the inevitable little things I didn't set out to get, but did anyway. On the other hand, one of those was suddenly remembering that we needed toilet paper. Mundane, but I don't think I'd be very happy if we ran out, you know?
And I thought the fog this morning was spectacular. But the drive home tonight - the fog was so thick, I was well under the speed limit, using only low-beams because high-beams served only to cause an intolerable glare. I didn't take the freeway - the fog wasn't bad till the first climb on the backroad, which means that when I decided to take it, I didn't know any better. Fortunately, I just follow that until it tees into Stafford Road, and with the "yo, road curves, stop sign ahead, ROAD CURVES, dummy!" signage, I couldn't screw that one up unless I blindfolded myself.
Pretty drive. Oncoming cars became disconcerting things. I was not happy when I encountered the first street lights: they turned the fog into a wash of amber-glaring mist, a sea of light that made vision a bitch and a half. Fortunately, they also mean I'm only a couple blocks from home, so it was deal-able.
I found out, in addition to dental switching on December 1, at the end of December, our vision plan will be discontinued (our new parent company apparently doesn't have vision insurance). This is mildly nuisancy, but right now I am trying to decide whether to get the policy information (which I have lost again) and try to go get contacts while I am still covered, or not. I would normally not bother until January or February, in all honesty, but....
The meetings today were really long. We started at 9:30 and finished at 6:00. Lunch was a separate lunch meeting to go over financials. There were a couple 15-minute breaks, and one half hour one when we all got restless after lunch and my boss needed to walk his dog besides (now, there is a trump card for a break!).
Tomorrow's supposed to be more of the same, probably minus the lunch meeting, I think.
