So, I finally ran errands tonight. Some necessary, some not. Man that felt good - mostly. Yeah, I spent money, but the few items that were non-necessary I did bloody well on.

First and most expensive stop, medicine. I have four months of birth control and about 250 claritin at this point. Even if I forget them every other day, they'll run out before they expire. (Claritin: 10 for $15 at the store; 30 for $25 at Costco; 100 for $32.50 through Kaiser...okay, the Kaiser ones are generics, but, I'm happy.) I may regret that if the price if the generics hit the market cheaper in the next six months, but I also like having a good supply and it's not a bad price at all. Not for pills that, three or six months ago, would cost you $2 a pill if you didn't have good insurance....

Then to the mall. I wanted shirts. I got shirts - yes, from the men's department. :) I got shirts on clearance. I got over $100 worth of shirts for under $20. Which is fortunate, because if they had not been on sale they would SO not have been worth it. Argh, I hate prices. There were seven I tried on; I only got three. One was too stiff and uncomfortable, which I hate. The other three washed out - they were all the same sort in different colors - because frankly, they were shoddily made. I didn't mind the blue or purple going, but the grey hurt to let go of - it was a gorgeous color and not at all like anything else in my wardrobe. And the cloth was so soft. And fragile. There were threads everywhere, and it seemed to fray a bit when you buttoned or unbuttoned them, so.... Not worth it.

I didn't get any like the ones I envied Scott. Those were excellently soft, and striking, but I couldn't find them. I found something like, but short-sleeved, which I didn't want. However, I got three perfectly comfortable shirts, each striking in its own way, including one that I thought might look okay on me that instead utterly shocked me by what it did with my coloring (okay?? I would have had to fight not to buy that shirt if it weren't on sale after trying it on - of course, I wouldn't have tried it on if it weren't...). That's a black and tan pattern; the others are a red and a green.

I could claim I wanted more for the business trip, but I have enough business shirts. I wanted more because I wanted more, and they're comfortable and nice-looking and machine washable and they didn't cost much.

Other than that, I picked up contact lens solution, dental floss, and for truly cheap bliss, two bars of sandalwood soap. I love that stuff, and at Winco I can get it for 48 cents a bar. (I won't buy anything perishable requiring refrigeration/freezing, or packaged in-store, there ever again. That doesn't mean I'm stupid enough to ignore their good prices on non-perishable items!)

Bliss. Absolute bliss. And the cost of the items I purchased for the joy of having them is still only barely over $20 if you count my meal at McDonald's in that category (which is where it really belongs).

I don't like incessant acquiring for the sake of doing so. But every now and then it's fun, and everything I got today I will use, and in most cases, enjoy. (It's rather hard to find dental floss enjoyable, or contact lens solution. I'm quite sure I would loathe their lack, but....)

Maybe you should keep a bar around for beauty and another bar for washing...
