Scott did come home last night after all; he elected not to move the car, and his friends dropped him off. We're waiting on an adjuster from the insurance for the lady who hit him to call back (sometime in the next two days, which I am guessing will mean Monday, honestly). We'll see what shape the car's in at that point, but I'm probably going to have it towed, in case it did impact the bar that anchors the trailer-hitch (it could just as well have bent the hitch itself, which is easily fixed by removing it).
Meanwhile, I ran a bunch of errands this morning so Scott can have a car to do his stuff this afternoon. We have shampoo again. And my library books are returned.
In doing so, I drove through the north Wilsonville exit and around the construction there - Argyle Square, it's been labelled for a while. It looks like the rumors are true: there are 'Costco' signs up on the one building. Looks like it's going to be a whole mall/area, with a Costco and a Target (anything else isn't yet signed, even with construction signs). I'm rather looking forward to it. The land they're building on used to be a truckstop, and the undeveloped land immediately adjacent to it. I don't remember why they shut down (at a guess, probably when the state rules about underground tanks changed - half of everything else shut down then, seems like), but it was a while ago, and the structures had long since been torn down, leaving a dirt field with some concrete chunks, a blocked-off access at a stop-light, and scraggly weeds. Even the weeds didn't prosper there. This development is actually a good thing....
...except for the hell of traffic. The area is over-prepared for what it is now (there are two gas stations, a hotel, access to an area with a bunch of offices/industrial stuff, and access to residential; except for a garden center, all other present commercial development is more easily reached through the south exit). It's under-prepared for what it will be, though. That was my nice, easy route home. Depending on how bad it gets, if I don't need to do shopping I will probably end up taking the Nyberg exit. The drive over on 65th is almost as fast (except for getting off at the exit, which is nuisancy) as the north Wilsonville exit is, today. If traffic is what I expect when this is done, it'll be a lot easier way to get home.
I am very pleased, though. This is ... way, way convenient. It's 20 minutes or so to get to the nearest Costco and Target right now. This area is within walking distance, although the walking route's not quite convenient (there's a block or so with no sidewalk) yet.
And to speak of the weird weather, while I was in downtown Wilsonville proper, it started pouring. With sleet and occasional hail mixed in. For some while: all the way from the grocery to the library, all the time I was returning books and getting a new one, and until I drove out of the edge of the storm partway home. When I got back into my car at the library, I closed my umbrella and tossed it to the floor. I got quite wet in the time it took me to perform that maneuver.
It's. May. What's with this weather? The rain, the crazy rain, I totally understand. This is Oregon. It's the sleet and hail, that should have stopped April Fool's Day at the latest....
