And I wasn't even trying. The past couple days were busy at work. Good, overall (for one thing, the hire for the other position was confirmed, so soon instead of an opening we shall have a programmer). But busy.

I've been vegging terribly in the evenings, mostly reading (14-day loans tend to make you want to focus on the book). I've finished that book now.

Happy fourth of July. I'm not always proud of my government. And yet...there is so much that is beautiful and good in this country, as well as so much that is insular, or hateful, or careless, or unkind. It's not perfect. I'm not even convinced it's the best out there. But it's home, and in my own silly way, I love it.

Besides, I get to see shiny things in the sky tonight. That's got to be good, right?

::nods:: Seeing shiny things is nearly always a good thing. Especially the shiny things that you are referring to. ::grins::

Yes. The US country - those parts of it I've seen - are for the most part beautiful. Looking down over the desert from an airplane is utterly gorgeous, and there's a beauty in deciduous forests in late autumn/early winter that I'd never seen before. (Once I clued in 'oh yeah, they're supposed to be like that'.)

The US people are, for the most part, good people. When visiting, I've been treated almost entirely with courtesy, grace, and a remarkable helpfulness.
I've also come the closest I'd ever been to being beaten up just for being the wrong colour. :/ Thankfully, the person in question decided not to pick on the visiting Aussie .. really, that seems to be what happened! Even the mean guys go easy on the Aussies...

There are things I strongly dislike about the US, but they mostly have to do with details. It's a pity that those details happen to be REALLY BIG ONES, like major corporations or government foreign policy. But eh. Details.

I love the land. I like the people. And I really, really envy you your soil and water. (grin)
