I finished the book I was reading, First Rider's Call. It rocked, but I very badly want a sequel now. It took long enough to get this sequel to Green Rider that I know it'll be a while. Sigh. But, I also know that she can (whether it takes a while or not) match and surpass herself - and considering the first book rocked, with that I am mostly content. (Even if I do still want a third book now.)

Besides, getting another book would not be good. I have The Sea Lark's Song, which is over 500 pages long and due back on the 19th. The latest Harry Potter book is finally in transit for my hold (I don't want to own any more hardcovers; I'm sure I'll buy that one when it comes out in paperback - I'm accumulating quite the list of books waiting for paperback). It will be a 14-day book when it comes in, too. On the plus side, I'll have a few days' grace, which I may use, so as to extend its due date. I feel guilty about that as there are other people waiting, so I'm first going to check if there are substantial holds out on the other book. If not, I'll just re-hold it and read the Harry Potter. (Which still has over 350 holds out on it, although if mine's in transit, that number will be below 350 shortly, given my position on the list.)

Work's going to be a bit busy. This past week was chaotic, mostly for the sake of being chaotic rather than anything else, I think. We have someone out with a knee injury - he should have more news on Monday. I have the feeling it won't be good, but I'm hoping I am wrong. We have a site going live this week - our folks are in town and ready to go in tomorrow to start final setup.

And I learned over the weekend that another coworker - one I don't know well, but have worked with, who is competent, and liked by those who know him well - was told that his cancer is inoperable. I want to go on about it being unfair, but that doesn't do a lot of good and I'm sure everyone can already predict how that would read anyway.

I'm on call next week, but only as backup. Still, planning for a week where I don't do a whole lot that I can't interrupt if I need to. Which was one reason I indulged by going to the Japanese Gardens both yesterday and today. Relatively brief visits - maybe a half hour each - but very pleasant. During the early morning yesterday, the afternoon today. (I wanted to try for some photographs, and the lighting in the garden is fairly dramatically different. If I went back in late afternoon or early evening, it would be dramatically changed again, since the sun has by then gone behind the trees if not the hill itself.)

Scott gets back Tuesday. It will be good to have him home again. I hope he's having a good time.
