LJ is going to allow post-by-phone, but it will require something that can play .ogg files (due to royalty issues with mp3's). The previous post was a bitch that Windows Media Player, which I am quite content with, can't play these and I did not want to install anything else to get them. (Windows QuickTime has an extension to play them, but I have it only under protest and dislike it.)

supersat who linked me to something that allows WMP to support these file types. I know very little about this software - only what can be read on the page. But it worked. Which is, in the end, pretty much all I wanted.
The previous post has, therefore, been removed. If you're in the same boat as I was, the tool is at http://tobias.everwicked.com/oggds.htm and it does not associate the file type with WMP. However, you can do so when you open the .ogg file, so.
Thank you again,
supersat!

(BTW, I hate QT with a passion too -- it broke PNGs in IE on my old computer)
