There's a web site called "this is broken" - syndicated as [livejournal.com profile] brokenfeed on LiveJournal - and one of the recent entries is cell phones with "unusual" number patterns.

Agree with the person who wrote it in to them. I would not be able to use those phones nearly as easly, and I don't see the point in making life harder for users. What a stupid thing to do.

I have the 3650, and while it took a while to get used to, I can now dial/type just as fast, if not faster. The distance between the keys makes it easy to type out words with two hands, increasing your typing speed.

However, Nokia has introduced newer versions of the 3650, the 3620 (http://www.nokiausa.com/phones/3620/) and 3660 (http://www.nokiausa.com/phones/3660/), which sports a redesigned (more traditional) keypad and 16-bit color instead of 12-bit color.
