Dad dropped by this evening with Scott's birthday gifts, and we chatted for a while. He's doing some Windows training for a group and I was commenting on the differences of XP from earlier OSs - since he has Windows 2000 to work with. So depending on what he settles on, I may provide some XP screenshots and information to go into his informational set, since it is a sort of different experience in a few areas (mostly for the better, I think, but...). That may turn out not to be useful, but hey, I'm easily amused.

I've got my Gencon registration, and our hotel registration set up for this year. (I put in for the vacation well in advance, but will need to double-check that I took enough off. I have the days, so if not, I'll just tack on the end. My only concern is whether I took that Monday off, or Monday and Tuesday, which is what I'd really like.)

I have a new bookshelf. It's a half-height just under the window - the same type we used in the library, only this is in the computer room. And now I can get a lot of books that were in stacks out of the stacks, along with a bunch of other stuff. I can already see a substantial improvement around my computer chair, despite step 1 of placing the bookshelf being "dislodge everything occupying that space." Mind, a lot more cleaning is needed - some things to the shelf, some to the trash, some to other points within the room. But it is looking a lot more promising than it was - I don't believe it took me this long to have this idea.

The shelf doesn't match my computer desk at all. One is dark wood, one is very pale "maple" finish. The window frame is a different color. The two desks on the other side of the room are still another shade, sort of an auburn, and not quite the same shade though they're closer matches than the rest of the room. There's really nothing that matches in this room, and I don't actually care much except that it finally registered on me. It's all functional, which is what I really need to know. I'm far more concerned with looks in the library or the living room/kitchen. What I want in here is far more convenience and comfort, and it has a lot of that and this helps.
