Someone's finally articulated what is at least a large part of my discomfort with these services. And, as is the way of such things, has been quoted. They're artificial, forced, and a waste of time - at least, my time. But I couldn't have said why more articulately than that.

Sometimes, people explain yourself to you pretty well.

I treat orkut and friendster as just free versions of Friends Reunited -- that is to find people I've lost contact with.
