Sort of tired. Not because I need a nap, but because I just had one. It got rather warm in here. It's 85 now - mind, the AC is set on 77 and has been on all night and this morning - it goes to fan mode when it doesn't need to cool - the last time it was 77 in this room was this morning before 7. So I was sprawled out in front of the AC, reading. And then I was napping for a couple hours. I knew I would need a nap at some point, with how I slept last night, but this sort of crept up on me. Okay, it didn't creep up, it ambushed me screaming and took me down mid-page.

See, this morning I went out and got milk and toothpaste (exciting, I know). Came back and did a few 'net things and then tried to watch Big Fish. It was a Big Flop - I did not like the characters or the idea, and I think I made it all of maybe 15 minutes into the thing if you count fast-forwarding through much of two scenes (including the opening scene!) as they made me uncomfy and annoyed me. So I took that back to the library (still have Master and Commander to watch with Scott, hopefully tomorrow am). But since I took it back, I went ahead and picked up what was waiting - Brother Bear, and a couple books on art journals / altered books. Yes, I know they are different things, but I really can't bear the idea of altering books nor do I find the art that results personally appealing much of the time. However, some of the same techniques can be stolen for journalling, and that I will cheerfully do, hence the books.

I actually may try a single altered book, because I have one that may land in the trash otherwise and which arguably deserves better than that. It's The Poet's Notebook. This is the book that had the misfortune to be my experiment with writing in books after everyone told me I should and it was a great way to maximize what you got from the book. This seemed to me an ideal book for it. I did an ideal book a great disservice - as I found out, I do not like this method of interacting with a book at all! I meant to reread my current copy but I can't stand it, because it is all marked up and trashed. It looks bad and damaged to my eye, and it also keeps me from reading the text on its own terms and experiencing it anew - there's all this crap in the way. So, I have a copy that is no good for resale and no good to me. If I decide to try altering a book, that will be the one. But it does not sound fun, honestly. (Either way, I think I need to buy a new copy of that book! It has some great stuff in it.)

Took some photos while I was at the library. A couple worked and I may post them. I have a temporary tattoo of a dragon on my left arm, and a small orange and yellow butterfly on my right wrist. It's that sort of weekend, childish, freeflowing, silly, and hot.

Also, I'm sort of beta-ing the fotobilder software (I will probably try some more later). So I am reading [livejournal.com profile] fotobilder_user for people who are doing this. Today [livejournal.com profile] wechsler posted about a new client, in its first release for alpha testing. I just loved this piece of that post, it's beautiful: "It is ALPHA CODE and will almost certainly gain sentience, try and take over the world, and make lascivious comments towards your parents!"

I'm debating whether I want to try software that might do that last. Trying to take over the world, I can live with, but really.... :)
