The Thursday Threesome
Onesome: Surprises-- Hey, do you like surprises? ...and what kinds? Birthday parties, dinners out? ...or are you one of those people who absolutely has to know what's going on before it happens?
Generally, no. Surprise gifts, sometimes. Unexpected things in the mail, sometimes. Other sorts of surprises tend to unnerve me and leave me scrambling for how to react. Even if the new thing/possibility is nicer than what I had planned, it's uncomfortable and frustrating to have to give up what I'd expected (or even to have to pick which one to sacrifice).
Twosome: in the-- nick of time: How do you keep track of birthdays and anniversaries and events you need to remember but only occur once a year? ...and where is your bailout place for cards and such when you've cut things a little too close?
Er, well, generally I don't. I try to recall them, but I often don't succeed. Then again, I'm not a real fan of the idea that birthdays or anniversaries must be celebrated. Giving me something for those dates somehow means less than doing it on other dates, and I feel the same about offering to others at the same time. I try to remember that our culture teaches that you aren't loved if you aren't thought of then, but for pity's sake, if someone is doing it just because That's What You Should Do, it doesn't mean a bloody thing, or at least not half as much as it would if they just sent a card or an email or something for no reason at all, or when they knew I was down, or that sort of thing. It's the little things for no reason that are sweet.
But, I am also a forgetful spacy person. The above is not my excuse for that, it's real, but even when I mean to honor a day, I tend to lose track of it. :P
Threesome: Mail-- Mail Call! Did anything interesting show up lately besides the bills? ...and do letters and cards still make it to your place or have email and ecards taken it all over? Inquiring minds and all that...
Mostly email and ecards. I got a silly ad yesterday, and my Japanese Garden newsletter in teh past week, and a few other things, but no personal correspondence real recently that I can recall.
