Oregon Zoo, in Portland. And yes, "loud" is also a good work. At least the space was not also filled with children. The first time I encountered lorikeets, I encountered them in tandem (briefly, before fleeing) with 8 or 10 excited kids who looked to be older grade-schoolers.
I first encountered 'em in an outdoor-but-enclosed-by-plastic display at the San Antonio zoo. The ones in SA were red. Last January I got to meet a bunch of 'em again at an aviary in Niagara Falls, and LORD there were a lot of 'em screeching.
I was quite honoured to have one of them trust me enough to fall asleep on my shoulder, though it meant standing still for about 20 minutes before she woke up. The volunteer said she was the top female in the group's pecking order. Friendly birds, really, even when they were trying to pick the shiny bits off my purse.
Reminds me of us going into one of the local pet stores, and the parrots that decided they wanted to go home with me. I walked by them, they hopped to my shoulder. I tried to get them off, they refused. Clerk came laughing and took them off, and they hopped back on my shoulder. She was amazed for they were usually shy! Of course, she then tried to talk us into buying the pair, untill we explained we had three inside cats that would just /loooooove/ the snack. :)
