I finished reading Storyteller by Amy Thomson. I'm not sure what to say of it. The world it presents is fascinating, as is the mythology (more or less that's what it is). The story itself is mostly interesting, but she seems to get sidetracked away from what was important to me, and there's at least one subplot that seems to be there to prove something, and not about the world or the characters or anything other than the author's position on something. It may or may not be, but it just didn't seem to mesh in and belong.
Ultimately, I would say this is not a bad book, if that one subplot doesn't trouble you. On the other hand, it's at best good, slightly fluffy. It left me unsatisfied, wondering if I was supposed to think the story itself was important, or rather focus on the history and setting as it was being presented. There was a lot of exposition.
It's okay. It's nowhere near being The Color of Distance, although the world and aliens it presents are equally fascinating. The plot itself doesn't rise to the level of fascination achieved by the characters and world, and that's a pity.
