Fred Meyer's just surprised me, pleasantly. A bit over a month ago, we bought a new vacuum cleaner there. And this weekend, I got around to tallying the receipts. Now, when we bought this vacuum cleaner, we were surprised to learn at checkout (we hadn't noticed when we picked it) that it came with a free $10 gift card. Okay, cool.
Only, when I added that receipt up into the checkbook, I noticed for the first time that we had been charged $10 for that gift card. Um. Not amused - at them, or at myself for not seeing it at the time. Sigh. It LOOKED like it was charged and then cancelled but when you added it up, it hadn't been. Baffling - and annoying. At any rate, I went back today.
I wasn't at all confident they'd give me my $10 back. I was hoping if they wouldn't do that, they'd at least let me return the gift card, getting the vacuum for the original price (but the gift cards aren't returnable). If they wouldn't take it back, since it had been so long, I planned to get $10 of stuff on the gift card and not shop there again.
I gave the woman the story, she scanned the receipt and viewed the screen, and promptly called a manager over to tell her the right way to cancel it and get the override needed. I left with the gift card and my $10. Considering it had been more than a month, even with the receipt and card I was not at all confident of that. They made it nice and simple and easy, and I am very pleased with them right now.
