First - it must be fall, it's raining, it's pouring, it feels like Oregon. It's glorious. And I got the heck off the freeway on the way home because at nearly-six it was still packed. Way moreso than usual. Folks, this is Oregon. It rains. Why do we react like that is a shock every year? Adjust your driving, but not to 'park and put on the emergency break for fear the little drips will wash me away' please....

I actually needed an umbrella today! (Well, that or get soaked, but that counts.)

And on to [livejournal.com profile] thefridayfive:
1. What kind of computer do you have? (Mac, iBook, Dell, etc.)

I have an IBM Thinkpad laptop (older model, small hard drive - wasn't small when I bought it but it sure is now) that I use for most of my text-based activity.

I have two desktops, neither one a name brand. One is a Piece O' Junk running Windows 98 that will probably be retired at some not-too-far-off point. The other is Scott's old machine which can run things neither the laptop nor the POJ will handle, such as iTunes or World of Warcraft. Ironically, it's not my primary computer since my main use for computers is text - but it's the one I expect to have the longest yet of the three.

2. How old is it? Are you happy with it?

I'm not sure how old the desktops are. The Win98 one...well, I think it was an upgraded '95 though I'm not sure. It's ooold. The other desktop is newer but it was Scott's first and I'm not sure when we got it. The laptop is about three years old.

3. How many computers are in your household? (at home if you are away at school)

Either four or five, depending on how you count it. Scott has a desktop, and there's an unused computer that's been stored for long enough and is ancient enough I really don't think it should count. (Actually, right now there is one more literally in the house, which is my work laptop. But I don't think that counts either.)

4. What are your favorite games/timewasters on your computer?

World of Warcraft. Browsing the 'net. I sometimes play solitaire but not often.

5. If money were no object, what kind of computer would you like to have?

I'm not a build-it-yourselfer. I'd want a top-of-the-line system designed for mixed (heavy) use, preferably with some media center capabilities but that would not be a requirement and I wouldn't trade off other things to get it if it came to that. LOTS of diskspace. Tons of diskspace. (Of course, my definition of 'tons' is very doable today, actually.) Lots of memory. Windows XP Pro. Yes, I know, it's Windows. Windows is what I know and like. I write programs for Windows. I play on Windows. I have used Windows for a long time and it does what I expect it to, when I expect it to, almost all the time - and that's usually even what I want it to be doing then.
