Okay, why is it nice to send your friends a chain email that says if they delete it (or don't send it on) it will give them a year of bad luck? It is either absurd, or nasty, depending on whether you believe that stuff. It is sure not very friendly, even if sending it on includes good luck, to send someone something that under any circumstances wishes them bad luck.
I can't stand chain letters like that, though at least these days few people send them on, most delete them or just read and file them, I guess. I used to get more. Perhaps people have (mostly) realized I don't care for them. This is not to say I don't share the occasional one if it is funny enough, but, VERY seldom.
But the ones that have any negative "consequence" stated for not sending them on are just rude to send, IMO.

I always want my friends to have the option to do what they want.

Of course, I'm likelier to be happy with such beasts if it is a forward I haven't seen a gazillion times, as well, but obviously people can't be completely sure before sending whether I've seen it before.

Now that I think about it, my tendency with "good friend" memes of late is to simply reply to the person who sent it to me, unless I really like the images in the email.
