Yes, it's early. But I'm in the right mood, and who knows if that will happen again in time? Also, about this time the extended family starts asking, so the fact that I've thought about it means there's an answer. (And Scott will even have seen it. With luck, he'll post one of his own....) I might post a link back to this after Thanksgiving, as long as I remember.

Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out; it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish and it might come true. Give and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

Not really in any particular order:

1. Do something good for someone who needs it. Seriously. Tell me, don't tell me, it's all good. Be a listening ear to someone who needs it. Donate to a charity (whether it benefits animals or humans). Give time at a food bank. Give of your time to help a neighbor who needs and wants it. Something. Because I want to live in the kind of world where we do that sort of thing for each other. (If you want to donate in memory of my parents, Andrew and Julie Davidson, feel free; for that, I recommend something related to children and education, animals or animal rescue, diabetes, caring for US soldiers abroad in some way, or helping to feed the poor.)

2. Any form of art, including icons. Bonus points if it is digital and not physical, as I somewhat lack space. Or would, if all the physical art I own now were properly placed. I could use an icon for "just being silly/whimsical now". I love mermaid pictures.

3. Tell me a memory - a true story, or one you think is true. Doesn't have to involve me, though it can. Something positive and happy would be best. Something with a sense of community (family or friends) and/or humor would be great.

4. One Colorado quarter (2006). One Montana, one Washington, and one Wyoming quarter (both 2007). I'm not sure if Utah (2007) is out yet, but I could use two of it if they are. Or one, if it's what you have. :)

5. A Christmas card. (No promises that I will reciprocate, but I will try. If I have your address, that is. If you don't provide me a way to reciprocate, then I probably won't. ;)

6. Patience. I'll probably be in need of some of it from my friends, this holiday season in particular.

7. A peace pole. I have specific ideas for this one, though, and in theory Scott knows someone who can do it. I want either a copper pole or copper plaques mounted on wood. I'd prefer five-sided but would settle for four (especially if there's wood involved, obviously ;). (The plastic on wood ones look...I don't know, just too artificial for me.) Five and a half feet above ground, whatever-it-takes to anchor it below ground. English, Spanish, French, German. Italian if it's five-sided. I don't really need it for Christmas; it's rapidly becoming evident that we'll be lucky to have the landscaping sorted out in time to start implementing next spring. And it does kind of need to be placed in context.

8. One of those GPS units that tells you where to go (no, not telling you to go there, that's what my friends are for; I mean directions to your chosen destination). Garmin is the brand name I know, but I dunno if it's the only one out there. Only I don't know enough to know what model I want. I want something that runs off the car's power when in a car but can run on battery when not in a car (the latter's not critical, but it would be nice), can be mounted and unmounted without too much aggravation, gives directions out loud, and lets you select destinations by address or by name / keyword (for example, giving it "restaurant" to find nearby, well, restaurants). At least as of the last time the maps were updated, obviously. ;) Obviously it needs a display but my intent is not to read it while traveling, only when trying to select a destination.

9. Anything from my Amazon Wishlist. (Yes, there's a lot of Star Trek. Star Trek the Experience in Vegas not only sold me a tribble, it made me want to rewatch or, in some cases, watch for the first time. Which makes it potentially a LOT more expensive than just the discounted admission we paid. Sigh. And if anyone wants to buy a whole show, except DS9 which I have season 5 of, they're cheaper to buy en masse and just let me know to swap the show out for the individual seasons. Since I doubt many people will actually want to buy even an entire season given the price, I didn't think listing the whole-show options was really a bright idea.) This will probably get updated over time as I find more stuff.

10. If you want to spend money and nothing on this list fits, gifts.com/perfect has some good options (or an Amazon gift certificate, if all but the too-expensive items are off the wish list - I don't have a whole lot of affordable items on the list, I know).

I would be happy to send you a card--just drop me an email with your address. As for the other items, I will see what I can do. :-)

Random question on the quarters, since when I go through my phases of wanting caffienated soda at work I see a LOT of them -- do you care about what mint they are from, or do you just want them to by shiny?
