Disclaimer: no, if you're reading this on LJ, I am not going anywhere and I am not trying to drag you away. I am sharing my happy and if you want to poke around that's fine, and if you don't, that's fine.

Dreamwidth is making me very happy with features these days. They have added the ability to link to cross-posts at the bottom of your DW posts, so I have enabled it going both ways (so on LJ you'll see a footer linking to the DW post and number of comments; on DW just a link to LJ since LJ doesn't export comment-count images).

Tag merge. Ever ended up with a number of "photography" tags and a number of "photographs" tags and wished you could merge them as one operation, instead of having to update each one? Yes. Shiny. Now to clean up my tags on Dreamwidth.

CUT TAGS. OMG cut tags. I want to see more done with this, but now on pages where a cut tag shows, there is a little arrow. You click the arrow, it opens the cut tag in line and changes to a downward arrow. Click it again, it closes what was cut. One of the people on my reading list on Dreamwidth already showed that you can nest them - if two cuts are inside each other, the first expansion opens only the outer one, and then you can click the inner. The general arrow-clicky thing is SO SHINY because reading from my iPhone I do NOT like having to load another page (the iPhone browser can only have 8 pages open at once, max, WTFBBQ Mr. Jobs?). (What do I want to see done? I want the inner one to still show on the entry page. Or something of the sort. Spoiler protection even from direct post links. I need to draft a suggestion, but...shiny! Of course, it's been suggested once before and went down to flaming death, but that suggestion was a bit different and I think with a careful enough writeup based on discussion in that suggestion plus the new functionality it might be usable. We shall see, but I'll at least attempt to write it up and see if it's maybe up for consideration.)

They're also soliciting input for a complete overhaul of memories to a social bookmarking tool.

If you're interested in checking out Dreamwidth, I have one invite available and can recommend [site community profile] dw_codesharing if more are needed, or if you want to explore without being tied to invites whose use I can see. You can also go over there and sign in with your open id from LJ. An open id account with a verified email address can do most things, other than post entries, that a free account can do.

Again, not leaving LJ, not closing this account, not restricting commenting. This is not an attempt to shove people to Dreamwidth, it is a burbling about things that make me happy coupled with an attempt not to frustrate people who become intrigued by one of the things I burbled about and subsequently need/want an invite code.
