Drew, having resisted and then taken his nap, woke up and continued out of sorts. He wanted to spend basically ALL evening in front of the TV watching Totoro, and was not pleased that we only let him watch it for a bit (he was near the end: he got to see to the end, and then wanted it again, but we said no).
He did not want to go shopping for shoes. He did not want to try shoes on. He did not want to take OFF the shoes he decided he liked (honestly, I kind of count that one a win), he DID want to go play with the train set at the hobby shop next door, he did not want to leave, he did not want a toy bus, he did not want to leave, he DID want to go to the park, no wait he did NOT want to go to the park, he wanted to go to the store and buy milk so he could go home and have milk and honey. Which lasted until we GOT the milk, at which point he did not want to go home. Well, being as there's milk in the trunk, sweetling, we're going home. He did not want to get out of the car. He did not want to come inside. He did not want to play in the backyard, or upstairs with his train set (as large as or larger than the train table setup in the hobby store, sheesh!), he did not want to eat dinner, he DID want to eat apple slices (score one for Mommy, and hey, they're even good for you), he did not want dinner to be over, he wanted to watch Totoro, cue reloop....
He did play outside with Daddy happily after dinner, it just took a bit to get to it. He was playing upstairs happily last I checked. Right now, Daddy should be getting him ready for bed. That's either going REALLY WELL or, more likely, Scott has chosen the better part of valor and is letting him wind down a little more. (It's sort of a toss-up right now: his nap was late, so we can try to short his waking period or we can have a tired guy to get to sleep. Either way it may be rough, but odds are he'd sleep at about the same time either way, and one is likely to be a shorter period of rough-time.)
Meanwhile, I spent part of the evening ordering in the stuff we've had listed and settled on for Ian. Crib (Drew's is in use as a toddler bed and, anyway, was a drop-side crib), mattress, pump system for me (wore the old one pretty well out, and anyway it's not meant to be multi-person/multi-use), and initial contact re cloth diapers (have them, need to get some elastic work done on them). What I don't have yet is the car seat, as I'm waiting on an answer to a question from Graco about which of their car seats are compatible with the older (and just fine condition) stroller we have. I'm hoping I can buy one of the newer models and use it with this stroller. If not...I may switch to a Britax infant system if I'm going to have to buy the stroller anyway.
Either way, buying the stuff I did buy left me wincing at the cost. I'm not going for high-end boutique stuff (well, some might consider the mattress an exception: I don't skimp on that, babies spend a lot of time on their crib mattresses!), but youch. (Mattress: um, about twice the cost of the crib, actually, in this case. Heh.)
On the other hand, I COULD have bought a $2100 crib (I assure you, this would be way way WAY more than twice the price of the mattress I got) which...really just makes me stare. A lot. And back away slowly. (I only saw that because I glanced at cribs at the site where I got the mattress to see if they had one I wanted, at a price I wanted, as their shipping is free over a certain amount and the mattress put me over it. Still, that was cheaper than anywhere ELSE I could get that mattress, since the shipping was free. But the cribs...yikes.)
Folks, there are nursery sets out there that cost more than my CAR did.
And they can stay "out there" - if you have one, if you like it, that's great. But it's a bit pricy for me, and I'm sort of shocked all over again (went through this when putting together the wish list with Drew, but one forgets...or at least tries to...). Just saying.

It must be the moon or something, for Mikayla has done that Yes/No thing all weekend. Talk about frustrating! Great one moment, saying no the next. Gaaah! :P I've learn to just ignore it, continue on, and she will soon switch her mind again!
RE: Cribs - isn't it scary when baby furniture costs more than your own bedroom furniture? o.O;; I was happy with the set we picked up from Walmart of all places. Was a three piece set - crib, dresser, and changing table. While the crib converted to like a toddler daybed, we ended up picking up a small toddler bed for her instead that has worked great. :)

And yeah, the baby furniture is boggle-some. The crib I actually ordered is a Graco one via Walmart, yep. :P I converted Drew's bed to a toddler day-bed in part because I feel better, with all the concern about drop-sides, not leaving it a crib. (It was recalled and we got the part and it was no longer really a drop-side, but removing that side works even better to soothe me.)
By the time Ian's ready for a toddler bed, I may get Drew a big-boy bed and give his bed to Ian (with Ian's mattress). We'll see.
