So I read the news this morning and, as usual, what a mess.

1. Possible case of new-variant CJD (human mad cow disease) in the US (but the woman lived in Britain before, and they think she got it there).

2. Middle East. Need I say more?

3. Train derails and kills four people.

4. Actor arrested in the shooting death of his wife.

On the other hand, they're starting to learn a few more things that are potentially-useful medically. Not sure yet if they're good or bad, but they're happier than those headlines.

Remind me again why I decided to read the news in the morning while still waking up? ;)

The signing is at 1 pm. Painfully large check. I fixed the geo at one site, I'm fixing another, and that will get all off the crises (but not all the major issues) dealt with.

Of course, I missed most of a demo of a third-party product I really wanted to see, to accomplish this. It started at 9:30. I got into it at 10:10 or so. Bah, humbug. I sent several people from my team to go watch, as they were working on "important", not "critical" items and I want us to have some knowledge of this thing.

We've signed. We've been given a free bottle of wine by our mortgage lender (mostly amusing, since neither of us drink). We get the keys hopefully on Tuesday, that's the plan.

And half the utilities are lined up to be ours on Tuesday, now to get the other half....

Random news stuff that caught my eye.

People are stupid. Lighting the bar on fire must have sounded like a fun stunt to someone. I doubt the people injured were amused.

Abercrombie & Fitch is the target of boycotts and complaints for shirts which are offensive to Asians. I must admit, looking at them, I fail to see why anyone would want one; and I also fail to see why A&F did not realize there would be protests.

Threats against banks - unspecific, unsubstantiated. One of these days everyone will get calm about these and ignore them. Then one will be real, and people will die. You know, sort of like how we deal with the dangers of driving a car.

Antibiotic-resistant strep throat. Just what we all needed. Erithromycin apparently won't cut it any more - not that it ever would for me (I'm allergic), but that's an unfortunate option to lose or partially lose for most.
