kyrielle: Close-up of the author's eye, staring out at the viewer (eye)

I have my new contacts. When I went in for the appointment to get my eyes checked, I got a new lens solution. My eye doctor recommended it strongly over what I'm using right now (which they originally recommended). What I'm using right now leaves chemicals on the lenses, which get put in my eyes. This stuff doesn't. Nonetheless, I cannot bring myself to use it. (And no, I don't really want anyone to try to convince me to, honestly.)

Details back here. )

...like 50 degrees and pouring rain....

The forecasters were right. The official high in Portland was 103 at the airport, breaking the record. My thermometer showed 104 at work and at home, around 5 and 5:40 respectively (yes, traffic was NOT kind).

Of course, since both Scott and I work, the AC was off until I got home, so the house is a misery. AC is on now and hopefully the computer room will be tolerable soon - though the house was cooler than outside. Usually it's not, but apparently there's only so much you can bake it? I don't pretend to understand, I'm just grateful for the extra ten degrees or so the AC didn't have to deal with.

Tomorrow is supposed to be up around 100 again. BLEH. But, tomorrow the AC will go on as soon as I stir and STAY on. That will help. So will standing in front of it, which I think I'll do now.

When I went to leave work, I turned the car on, turned the AC on, waited for it to get to being actually cool, then brought it up to blow on me and held my sunglasses in front of it. Because they were hot to the touch. Feh. It worked, though. The rest of my drive was not too bad - I love AC. Getting out in my driveway was awful after all that cool, though. The car's still nicer than in here, but I can't drive around all night, and if I could, I'd still like to get other things done....

...though so far, my brain's just barely able to cope with reading LJ. Ugh.

This evening was not by any stretch of the imagination spent productively. On a productive evening, I process eighty photos, selecting ones to share and formatting them, and upload the first ten; or I scene; or I write or draw; or I clean the house; or I do any number of staff-jobs on Ephemera.

This evening, I attempted neither to melt, nor melt down. I avoided all staff-tasks and most conversations, because I was hot and correspondingly cranky. (That said online conversations at first, but except for the how-was-your-day exchange, I mostly did not talk to Scott, either. I just cocooned. His day, by the way, was fine until 3, when he found one particular thing had been screwing up for over a week. On the plus side, he got it sorted out - with some leftover work for Monday, but it's pretty straightforward. On the minus side, that meant he got home after I did. And I left an hour later than I wanted to and spent three times longer getting home than I wanted to, and twice as long as normal.)

I spent a lot of time alternately reading LJ, and laying in front of the AC on the floor, a book of puzzles open to the cross sums (and boy did I kill off most of my cross sums - sigh) while singing along with my "comfort" music list.

I did stir a bit, just now. I'm trying to post more regularly to Buzznet - I mean, I do spates of 10 photos a day and then nothing. Which works, but I'm hoping to get myself to keep up with photos. However, I didn't have any new photos. So I pulled out some old ones - from the Chihuly exhibit [livejournal.com profile] olna_jenn and I went to in Chicago a couple years back. I only posted three. I don't know how many I'll post total, and it probably depends on when I start taking other pictures as well as how many I like.

My contacts are starting to blur as my eyes get gummy. I take this a sign that I should go to sleep. We'll see if the bedroom is habitable, I guess....

Update: it is, but it's not completely comfy. Scott's okay with it, and I'm sleeping in the computer room where it's cool. I was wondering if this would happen, tonight. Tomorrow we may have to move the AC a couple hours before bed. The problem with this maneuver is (1) the computer room becomes uninhabitable much faster than the bedroom, so we might as well give up on it right then, (2) it has to go back at some point, (3) I'm on call and so might have very short notice to be busy in the computer room for hours, and (4) moving the thing, while not hard, is a pain in the behind precisely when you most need to, because it's portable but it ain't small. Which means moving it is hot and annoying work, albeit a short batch of it.

Last thing I need when the house is trying to pretend its occupants are bread loaves. Look, the only thing rising is my temper, and the only thing browning are the leaves of the plants that heard the set of words I used to describe the heat levels, okay? :P
