What kind of jewel are you?

Pearl

[livejournal.com profile] cynnerth asked me about three of my icons. (If you want me to ask about three of yours, anyone, please comment to this post.)

1. electric, mandelbrot

There was a big mandelbrot / mandelbit meme thing on LJ back years ago, where someone had made a generator that made these mandelbrot icons. It was fun to play with it and see what it would spit out and I saved quite a few. I uploaded this one intending to use it for posts where I was excited, and found that I grew...less excited with it, over time. It's very pretty. But it doesn't necessarily have the same resonance for all or most of the viewers; it's a bit shallow. So I seldom use it.

2. spirit of flight

This is made from an image Josephine Wall created. I actually found it when I received a notecard with the picture on it and now I also have notecards with this image. I love it. It speaks to me of inspiration and freedom and dreams, not the kind that come in sleep but the kind you live and drive yourself toward. It is a joy/freedom/spirituality image. I don't use it often, but I do sometimes; the problem being I have other icons for those themes.

3. ljhs photography

This is one of a number of "LiveJournal High School" icons created by [livejournal.com profile] cadhla at one point, based roughly on the fact that LJ communications (both in and outside circles of friends) resemble in some ways the sorts of things that happen in the halls of a high school. Another one I don't use - in this case because it is most appropriate in situations related to LJ Drama or photography. The "now shut up" is awkward for the latter, and I tend to duck and cover (rather than participate) once something is firmly in the realm of Drama. Which is a pity because this and the debate club one amuse me a lot.

First, a photo of a nightstand beside the bed. Kid you not, they match. Separate purchases, separate stores, there is no nightstand that is part of a "set" with this bed according to the catalog from the manufacturer that was present at the store where we bought the bed. If I didn't know that, I'd swear we'd bought nightstands from the same set.

And, in the drawer of the nightstand (well, actually the other one since I don't think Scott wants it in the drawer of his), my latest somewhat-amusing way of organizing my bpal - a lipstick holder from Storables. The 10 mL bottle won't fit, but 5 mL bottles will, or 6-7 imps, in each square.
