Siona at Nomen est Numen writes of insights on why we journal online. I don't know if they are true for everyone, or if they are the whole truth; but they ring to me as a truth. And the tale at the end of the entry is worthy in its own right, a small thing but well worth a smile. Perhaps I understand and like it so well because I have been there....

Crabby Old Lady writes about the woes of difficult packaging. I must agree on some points; others give me no trouble. But the essay is amusing....

On a not so amusing note, isn't it nice to know that the US government is protecting their web site that is designed for US citizens outside the US to register to vote, from many people outside the US (citizens and otherwise)? Ostensibly it's to avoid hacking, but really, folks.... Update: Per comments, this was truly temporary and is gone now, apparently.

*sigh* The absentee voting websites are back to normal. It was a temporary measure only, which has already been removed.

Alas, it's still making the LJ rounds, as good news never travels as fast as bad.

My local pharmacy back in Virginia offered the option of easy-open packages for those without children. And I found a large container of ibuprofin for sale normally with easy-openess, since so many people with arthritis use ibuprofin. It had a big thin plane of plastic sticking up perpendicular to the cap that you could use to more easily twist the cap off, and that was it.

So, it is sometimes possible to avoid the really nasty child-proofing, especially if you ask about alternatives. But generally the solution is to have children, since they can always open up packages for you.

I did. She specifically mentioned pain-killers and that they must expect people to just suffer with headaches.
