Courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] kfrye, a link to a video on the KGW (local news station) web site showing cars trying to drive on a steep hill during the storm. Trying being the operative word....

Attempting to drive that stretch of road: not real bright. Attempting it after the evidence of the first guys to do so was present: really not bright. The people standing around outside as it all happens: *whimper*.

I stay home when it's like this. First, I'm not that great at driving in messy weather. Second, even if I were incredible, the other people here are on average not that great either. And then there are the places like that hill where I don't think even good skills will help much without traction devices, and maybe not even then.

My God, you'd think people would have had the sense to stop before then. That's one of my fears about getting stuck in the mountains in the snow, I have three sets of chains but who knows if I'd come upon something like this by surprise.

Amen to staying home when there's nasty weather with nasty roads to match! Now, being from Iowa, it seems like I should be used to driving in icy and snowy conditions, and I know plenty of people who consider it no problem to go driving through whatever - but if we're talking about staying safe and such, there's absolutely no shame in staying home. Like you said - if it's not you, it could be other drivers out there who have issues.

Every time I drive, I see idiots whose licenses should be revoked for lack of any sense, common or otherwise. It doesn't matter the weather; they're idiots either way.

Yes, that's true as well.
