Today is my birthday. I have gotten a copy of the game Imaginiff (we played it at Scott's aunt and uncle's and it was so much fun) and a Wii game (Super Mario Galaxy). And I have the day off work!

I was going to give myself a gift and go to the Gardens today, but Scott came home for lunch and there were still some slippery patches in non-shaded areas on minor local streets. The Japanese Garden is up at a higher elevation, and the route I know best (and the others aren't, as far as I know, an improvement) involves a steep, windy, well-shaded road, which in this kind of weather likely isn't traveled much.

So today I will do clothes shopping (which was also on the list) and the Gardens can wait until the weather is a little better (as it should be the rest of the week, last I heard a forecast). I don't like clothes shopping, so that's a lousy birthday gift, but on the other hand the results (if I succeed in finding stuff that fits and looks nice) will be a good self-gift for my birthday.

1) Making a post that says "It's my birthday!" and then coming back a few hours later and going "Why the heck is the mailbox for my LJ replies so full?" is just silly. I? Am silly.

2) Clothes shopping is no fun at all. But it is much nicer when it is successful, when the things you like that fit turn out to be on sale, and when done on a weekday afternoon when the mall is, if not barren, at least much less busy.

3) I am so tired of women's sizes in the U.S. Someone please just give me tags that give the measurement through the waist, hips, butt, inseam, and rise, pls? I admit it's more numbers but if I could get an accurate idea of whether it would fit before picking what to try on, I'd be happy. Problem compounded by the fact that this varies, not just by manufacturer, or by style, but by both. Sigh.

4) I win anyway, 'cause I have pants that fit. These can replace a few pairs that fit only if you consider 'fit' to mean 'automatic tourniquet on sitting' or 'excuse me, sir, I did not mean to hit you in the eye with my button, it just popped off' (okay, no, really not quite that bad but they FEEL like it).

I like shopping, mind. I just dislike CLOTHES shopping. There's a reason for this. :P

Finally got around to uploading those pictures, so here are the new desks (and the living room, and Babe who managed to get into both shots, and the writing desk....) Click the photos for a larger view.
